New Year’s Eve in the U.K.

New Year’s Eve is a big celebration in the U.K. where people reminisce about the year that is ending and look forward to the year ahead. It is also a time to remember loved ones that have passed on.

People often go out to pubs and clubs and get dressed up or wear fancy dress. They all wait in anticipation for the big countdown to midnight.

On the stroke of midnight, fireworks are let off in most major towns. For those celebrating at home, the countdown at Big Ben and the London fireworks are broadcast on television.

On New Year’s Day, most people spend time with their family, either for a meal or a walk. some people get up very early to hit the shops for the New Year’s Sales.

People set themselves New Year’s resolutions, which are goals they must try and stick to. This often includes things like being more healthy or learning a new skill.
